UKEduCamp '24 Wishes

I wanted to provide a time and space for us to pause and share what UKEduCamp may have prompted for us as individuals.

Since my first unconference in ‘17, I’ve nearly always pitched a session and the January UKEduCamp at the University of Edinburgh was no different. This time I arrived with an even more reflective mood than I normally hold. Whether it was the time of year, how some of ‘23 had been for me and how I’ve changed or maybe it was meeting good people face/face for the first time since finding each other online during Covid-19 lockdowns and beyond.

 ‘I will…… I wish……’

I asked for a session at the end of the day - after I knew we would have listened, talked and thought about ideas, practices, issues and joys. I wanted to provide a time and space for us to pause and share what UKEduCamp may have prompted for us as individuals.  What’s the one thing I’ll do next, the one thing I’ll stop, the one thing I’ll start?

If you attended the session and agreed for me to scribble then share your thoughts - here you go. I hope you see this and it provides the right kind of prompt.

I will think about a hackathon style event where the questions are sourced from the conference attendees - an un-conf-athon!

I am going to be a trojan mouse.

I am going to be a fire ant.

I am going to complete the prior information notice.

I am going to share what I don’t know.

I am going to think in the open.

I am going to check what it looks like to other people.

I will go back to being a kid and use games to improve my work and collaboration.

I will connect with and regularly meet with the good eggs here today.

It seemed the group appreciated the sharing, listening and good humour in the session especially after a very full day. I'd definitely consider pitching something similar again.

Would having a physical board for people to write their wishes or commitments as they came to mind during the day be better or just different?

Having a good day is a good thing and it's even better if it creates intentions then impacts. I've those and other reflections and thanks to share - that'll come on another page yet to turn. Update: I turned the page.
